Merkez is one of the localities of Hamur; it had 1,618 registered voters at the 2011 parliamentary election.
AK Parti took 784 of the 1,152 valid votes cast in the neighborhood at that election (68.1%). That puts the neighborhood 6.1 points above the party's district average. At the 2010 referendum 91.2% of the neighborhood voted 'yes' — 6.5 points below the district average.
The tightest race came at the 2009 local election: Demokrat Parti took 296 votes to independents's 275 — a margin of just 21 votes. Turnout at the 2011 parliamentary election was 73.5%, 7.2 points below the district average.
