Payas-Karsi is one of the localities of Dörtyol; it had 545 registered voters at the 2011 parliamentary election.
The neighborhood parts ways with the district as a whole. At the 2011 parliamentary election it went to CHP with 52.6%, while across Dörtyol the leading party was AK Parti, with CHP here running 34.2 points above its district average. At the 2010 referendum 73.7% of the neighborhood voted 'no' — 25.4 points above the district average.
The tightest race came at the 2009 local election: CHP took 195 votes to MHP's 191 — a margin of just 4 votes. At the 2009 local election the neighborhood went to CHP with 38.0%, while Dörtyol as a whole was won by MHP.
