Tastepe is one of the localities of Malatya Merkez; it had 7,552 registered voters at the 2011 parliamentary election.
AK Parti took 87.0% in the neighborhood at that election. Across Malatya Merkez the same party stood at 70.7%, putting the neighborhood 16.3 points above the district average. At the 2010 referendum 91.1% of the neighborhood voted 'yes'; across the district that was 76.9%.
