Cayonu is one of the localities of Varto; it had 23 registered voters at the 2015 parliamentary election.

20 people voted at that election. Yeşil Sol Parti took the most votes with 16; CHP followed with 3. Yeşil Sol Parti's share here is 11.0 points below the district average. In the presidential election, 21 of 36 valid votes went to Ekmeleddin Mehmet İhsanoğlu — 50.0 points above the district average.
