Kolan is one of the localities of Varto; it had 93 registered voters at the 2015 parliamentary election.

86 people voted at that election. Yeşil Sol Parti took the most votes with 80; AK Parti followed with 3. Yeşil Sol Parti's share here is 2.0 points above the district average. In the presidential election, 96 of 97 valid votes went to Selahattin Demirtaş — 10.8 points above the district average. At the 2017 referendum 75 of 86 valid votes were 'no' — 1.1 points above the district average.
